Jamaica’s women made one goal count in 2023

Jamaica scored once in the group stage of the 2023 women’s global football tournament in Australia and New Zealand and still advanced. The other half of that sentence explains how: the team conceded no goals across its three matches. A first knockout appearance was built through the combination of one win and two draws. The sequence began with a 0–0 draw against France, Jamaica's first point in the competition. The French federation's record places that opener in Sydney on July 23. The result changed what Jamaica needed from the final group game. With four points already secured, a draw against Brazil was enough to advance. These numbers describe the results, rather than proving a particular tactical explanation. They cannot on their own tell us how a press was organized or why a substitution worked. There was an earlier milestone beneath this one. Jamaica had qualified for its first appearance at the women’s global tournament through the 2018 regional championship.
