Five days after joining the club, the substitute found the top corner from outside the penalty area. United had been heading towards victory after Benjamin Šeško restored their lead with a late header from Luke Shaw’s cross.
Bryan Mbeumo had opened the scoring shortly after half-time, cutting in from the right to finish low into the far corner. Tyrique George brought Everton level in the 83rd minute, converting after Hayden Hackney’s pass for his first Premier League goal for the club.
Šeško’s response briefly put United back in front. Maitland-Niles then made his first appearance an introduction with an immediate consequence: a point Everton had twice been chasing.
For Everton, the result preserved an unbeaten league start. For their newest scorer, it offered an unusually quick answer to how he might contribute.
